Andhra Pradesh, India has saved INR 2,000 crore after the adoption of e-procurement strategy by involving the private sector for expertise and sharing the costs in a public-private partnership.

It covers the eight critical departments, 13 public sector units, 57 municipalities and a few autonomous bodies. The government has launched the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) in 2002. It is the stated vision of the Central government that all departments as well as states will adopt e-procurement by April 2007. The National Institute for Smart Government has reported about a national strategy for e-procurement, which has an idea to adopt e-tendering by Orissa and Karnataka. The Central Vigilance Commission has clarified and commended for the e-procurement for public sector enterprises. e-Procurement has a bearing on better governance and efficiencies for the government and competitiveness for the industry. It will also allow the industry to globally participate in e-Commerce markets.
