About the recruitment

GRSE, a Navratna Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has released Employment Notification No. 2026/05 (J&OP) for 58 posts. The notification covers 55 Journeyman positions spread across 14 trades and 3 Driver (Vehicle) positions in Skilled Grade-III.

Journeyman positions involve two years of structured training. On successful completion, candidates may be considered for absorption into the permanent Semi-Skilled (SSK) grade, subject to performance, vacancies, medical fitness, disciplinary clearance and organisational requirements. Completion of training does not guarantee permanent absorption.

Eligibility

All qualifications and experience must be held as on 1 October 2026. Journeyman applicants must have passed Class 10 and hold the relevant National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) or National Trade Certificate (NTC) for their chosen trade, or a specifically accepted alternative listed in the notification. A general ITI certificate in an unrelated trade is not sufficient.

Driver (Vehicle) applicants must hold a valid Commercial LMV Driving Licence and possess six years of relevant driving experience covering both light and heavy motor vehicles. A Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence is desirable. Applicants must also have a clean driving record over the preceding six years, free of major accidents, serious traffic violations or driving under the influence of alcohol.

Candidates holding higher professional qualifications such as Engineering or Technology degrees, MBA, CA, CMA, CS, LL.B., MCA, Ph.D. or equivalent are not eligible. All qualifications must be disclosed; concealing any qualification may result in cancellation of selection even after appointment.

Selection process

Selection for Journeyman posts comprises application scrutiny, a written examination, document verification, a Practical Trade Test, and a Medical Examination. A Physical Efficiency Test applies to Crane Operator, Driver Material Handling and Rigger posts and is qualifying in nature. Shortlisted Ex-Agniveer candidates are exempt from the Physical Efficiency Test for applicable posts.

Selection for Driver (Vehicle) posts involves screening based on eligibility and experience, a written examination, document verification, a Practical Driving or Trade Test, and a Pre-Employment Medical Examination.

The written examination for both categories is an OMR-based test of 100 objective questions carrying 100 marks, to be completed in two hours. GRSE will shortlist candidates for the Practical Trade Test at approximately a 1:5 ratio based on written examination merit. The Practical Trade Test carries 50 marks and is qualifying in nature. Final merit is determined from written examination marks among those who qualify all required stages.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online only. Offline, postal, email or any other mode of application is not accepted. The application window opens on 30 October 2026 at 2:00 PM and closes on 28 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. Candidates should select Employment Notification No. 2026/05 (J&OP) on the application portal.

An application fee of Rs. 472 is payable through the online payment gateway on the recruitment portal for candidates who do not qualify for an exemption. The fee is non-refundable and no other payment mode is accepted. If a fee payment is deducted by the deadline but registration remains incomplete due to payment reconciliation issues, GRSE will verify and update such transactions by 30 November 2026; this does not extend the general application deadline.

Candidates must upload supporting documents including their Class 10 certificate and marksheet, date-of-birth proof, relevant NAC/NTC certificate or Commercial LMV Driving Licence, experience certificates, category certificates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD/Ex-Serviceman/Ex-Agniveer) where applicable, and any other documents specified by the portal. Original certificates must be produced at the document verification stage. Candidates should follow the detailed instructions in GRSE's official recruitment notification for complete guidance.
