NTPC Appoints Diwakar Nath Misra as Government Nominee Director

NTPC Limited, the state-owned power company, has appointed Diwakar Nath Misra, currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, as Government Nominee Director on its Board.

According to the company’s stock exchange disclosure, the appointment has been made by the President of India. Misra will hold the position until the end of his tenure in the Ministry of Power or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Administrative Experience Across Key Ministries

Misra is a 2000-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre with more than two decades of experience in public administration, policymaking and institutional governance.

During his career, he has held senior positions across several central government ministries, including Power, Finance, Commerce and Industry, Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Defence. His experience also includes grassroots administration in Assam, giving him exposure to both policy development and public service delivery.

Role in Financial and Trade Policy

During his tenure as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Misra represented India at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), contributing to discussions on the country’s priorities in international financial governance.

Earlier, as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, he worked on policy and institutional reforms to strengthen India’s agricultural export ecosystem. According to the profile provided, initiatives undertaken during this period helped agricultural exports cross the USD 1 billion mark for the first time.

Contribution to India’s Energy Sector

Misra also served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, where he contributed to policy frameworks for the upstream hydrocarbon sector.

His experience in the energy sector also extends to corporate governance. He has served on the boards of Oil India Limited, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, and Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited.

Strengthening NTPC’s Board

Misra’s appointment brings experience in energy policy, public-sector governance and central administration to NTPC‘s Board. His current role in the Ministry of Power and previous assignments across energy-related institutions provide a background relevant to the company’s operations and strategic priorities.

The appointment also reflects the government’s role in board-level oversight of public-sector enterprises in India’s power sector.
