MIDHANI Partners with HAL to Develop Indigenous Aero-Engine Materials

Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) is supporting India’s indigenous aero-engine programmes through the development of specialised alloys and advanced materials in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

The partnership focuses on materials required for demanding aerospace applications, including high-temperature components. The initiative is aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and reducing reliance on imported strategic materials.

Focus on Advanced Aero-Engine Materials

MIDHANI is supplying specialised materials for several indigenous aero-engine programmes undertaken with HAL. Its contributions include single-crystal superalloys and other high-temperature materials designed to withstand the extreme heat and operating conditions inside aero-engines.

Developing these materials domestically is an important part of building a reliable supply chain for aerospace propulsion systems. Such capabilities can help support India’s efforts to manufacture critical engine components using indigenous technologies.

HAL Achieves 2,000th Aero-Engine Milestone

HAL’s delivery of its 2,000th aero-engine at the Koraput Division marked a significant milestone for India’s aero-engine manufacturing ecosystem.

The achievement also highlighted the contribution of domestic organisations involved in developing and supplying specialised materials and components for aerospace applications.

MIDHANI’s contribution to various aero-engine programmes was recognised during the milestone event attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K.

MIDHANI Emphasises Self-Reliance in Critical Materials

MIDHANI Chairman and Managing Director Dr SVS Narayana Murty said that developing critical materials within the country is essential to achieving self-reliance in aero-engine manufacturing.

He highlighted the company’s ongoing work with HAL and other organisations across the aerospace sector to develop and indigenise advanced alloys for applications that require high performance under demanding conditions.

Strengthening India’s Aerospace Manufacturing Base

MIDHANI’s work in advanced metallurgy and specialised alloys supports India’s broader efforts to expand domestic capabilities in aerospace and defence manufacturing.
