Nirmal Kumar Singh has assumed charge as Director (Finance) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), bringing more than three decades of experience in public-sector finance, accounting and digital transformation.
Singh joins MCL after a long career with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Bokaro Steel Plant, where he rose to the position of Chief General Manager.
Three Decades of Finance Experience
Singh began his career at the Bokaro Steel Plant as a Junior Manager in June 1995 and went on to handle various responsibilities across finance and accounts.
During his tenure, he was involved in several initiatives aimed at modernising financial processes and improving operational efficiency.
Led Ind AS and SAP Initiatives
One of Singh’s key assignments was overseeing the plant’s first implementation of Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS). He also played a role in developing an SAP-based automated accounting system to support compliant financial reporting.
His experience further includes implementation of the SAP Costing Module, along with the digitisation of vendor payments and cash management processes.
These assignments have given him experience at the intersection of financial management, technology and organisational transformation.
Academic and Professional Background
Singh graduated with Honours in Accounting and Finance from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi, in 1990.
He qualified as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in 1994.
