Surya Narayan Panigrahi has taken charge as Executive Director (HR) at NTPC Limited, taking on a wider leadership role after more than three decades with the power major.

Before his elevation, Panigrahi was serving as Executive Director (HR)-cum-Regional Head of HR for NTPC’s Northern and Southern Regions. He has over 36 years of experience with the company across several areas of human resource management.
Extensive Experience Across NTPC
During his career, Panigrahi has handled responsibilities spanning recruitment, training and development, industrial relations, employee welfare, administration, security, CSR and HR digitalisation.

His assignments have taken him across several major NTPC establishments, including Talcher Kaniha in Odisha, Vindhyachal in Madhya Pradesh, APCPL Jhajjar in Haryana, Tanda in Uttar Pradesh, as well as NTPC’s Corporate Centre in New Delhi.
He has also served at the Southern and Northern Regional Headquarters in Hyderabad and Lucknow, respectively.

Played Key Role in HR Digitalisation
Panigrahi was associated with important technology-led HR initiatives during his tenure at NTPC’s Corporate Centre. He played a key role in implementing PeopleSoft HRMS and SAP ERP systems, helping modernise and streamline HR processes across the organisation.
He also contributed to the development of integrated security systems across NTPC, adding to his experience in organisational administration and employee management.
Leadership Across Regional Operations
Panigrahi later headed HR at Tanda Super Thermal Power Station before taking on regional HR leadership responsibilities.
In December 2025, he was given additional responsibility as Regional Head of HR for the Northern Region, alongside his existing role for the Southern Region.
He was elevated to the position of Executive Director (HR) with effect from June 8, 2026.

Focus on People and Organisational Growth
In his new role, Panigrahi is expected to further strengthen NTPC’s people strategy, capability development and HR transformation.
His long experience across plant-level operations, regional leadership and corporate HR functions is expected to support NTPC’s broader focus on organisational transformation, workforce capabilities and sustainable growth.
