UP Government pushes faster electricity connections for industries, warns officials of strict action

The Uttar Pradesh government has directed officials to speed up the process of providing electricity connections to industries and commercial establishments, with strict action warned against delays and negligence.

During a review meeting at Shakti Bhawan, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and UPPCL Chairman Dr Ashish Kumar Goyal instructed officials to ensure prompt disposal of electricity connection applications received through platforms such as Nivesh Mitra and Jhatpat.

Goyal said facilitating industrial and business growth is a key government priority and stressed that providing electricity connections is the responsibility of the power utilities. He warned that complaints regarding unnecessary delays or reluctance could lead to strict action, including vigilance inquiries against responsible officials.

Officials were directed to closely monitor pending applications and contact applicants wherever additional information or action is required to resolve cases quickly.

The meeting also reviewed electricity supply across urban, tehsil and rural areas, feeder-level performance and distribution parameters. Officials were asked to analyse feeder data regularly and take corrective measures to address shortcomings.

The UPPCL Chairman also reviewed special camps organised to resolve electricity billing complaints. He directed officials to maximise on-the-spot resolution so consumers can avoid repeated visits to government offices.

Focus was also placed on reducing line losses, improving revenue collection, strengthening smart-meter monitoring and ensuring better billing and consumer services. Officials were instructed to prepare feeder-wise action plans for areas reporting high line losses and ensure regular follow-up.

Goyal further reviewed damaged distribution transformers, centralised material tenders and the installation of fuse sets on distribution transformers below 100 kVA.

The review meeting was attended by senior officials, including UPPCL Managing Director Nitish Kumar. The government said stronger accountability and regular monitoring would be essential to delivering transparent, reliable and uninterrupted power services while supporting Uttar Pradesh’s industrial growth.
