With its 1,053 km coastline, a growing aviation network, strategic industrial corridors, and multimodal infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as the nation’s transport and logistics hub—offering unmatched opportunities for global investors.

Strategically located on India’s eastern seaboard, Andhra Pradesh is often referred to as the “Global Gateway to the East”. The state is leveraging its geography to build a comprehensive transport ecosystem that seamlessly integrates ports, airports, roads, railways, and inland waterways. This not only enhances domestic and international connectivity but also unlocks billions of dollars in investment opportunities in logistics parks, industrial zones, and export infrastructure.

The momentum is already visible—Andhra Pradesh’s economy, pegged at ₹16.06 lakh crore in 2024-25, registered a growth rate of 12.94%, outpacing the national average. A large share of this growth is being powered by infrastructure-led investments in the transport and logistics sector.

Ports: Expanding Maritime Capacity

With 1 major port and 5 operational non-major ports, the state is at the forefront of India’s maritime expansion.

  • Visakhapatnam Port alone handles 136 MMTPA, while Krishnapatnam manages 98 MMTPA.
  • Other operational ports include Gangavaram (64 MMTPA), Kakinada Deepwater (26 MMTPA), Kakinada Anchorage (4 MMTPA), and Rawa (2 MMTPA).
  • Four Greenfield ports—Ramayapatnam (139 MMTPA), Machilipatnam (116 MMTPA), Mulapeta (83 MMTPA), and Kakinada Gateway (16 MMTPA)—are under various stages of development.

Together, these facilities will create a maritime ecosystem with handling capacities exceeding 500 MMTPA, enabling Andhra Pradesh to rival global port hubs. The expansion offers investment avenues in container terminals, ship repair, logistics parks, and cold chain facilities—key for sectors like seafood, agri-exports, and energy.

Aviation: Taking Off Towards Global Connectivity

The state is equally ambitious in aviation. With six operational airports, including international gateways at Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh handles 5,000 aircraft movements and 4.3 lakh passengers monthly, along with 600 MT of freight.

The upcoming Bhogapuram Greenfield Airport, with 87% physical progress, is set to transform passenger and cargo connectivity. Eight more airports, including those at Dagadarthi, Kuppam, Amaravati, and Ongole, are in the pipeline.

This expansion opens doors for investments in cargo terminals, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, logistics hubs, and air cargo handling services, tapping into the rising demand for e-commerce and perishable exports.

Roads, Railways & Industrial Corridors

Andhra Pradesh boasts a robust 45,379 km road network and 8,744 km of National Highways, complemented by 12,643 km of State Highways.

Rail infrastructure is being redefined with:

  • East Coast Corridor (Kharagpur–Vijayawada, 1,080 km).
  • North-South Corridor (Itarasi–Nagpur–Nidubrolu, 890 km).
  • High-speed elevated passenger corridors linking Hyderabad–Bengaluru (592 km) and Hyderabad–Chennai (744 km).

Alongside, industrial corridors—VCIC, CBIC, and HBIC—offer a land bank of 91,031 acres for industrial and logistics development. Investors can plug into MSME parks, warehousing clusters, multimodal logistics parks, and corridor townships, capitalizing on connectivity-driven growth.

Inland Waterways: The Next Frontier

Few states match Andhra Pradesh’s advantage in inland waterways. With 900 km of navigable National Waterways (NW-4, NW-79, NW-104), the state is integrating riverine transport with ports, roads, and rail to power low-cost, lowcarbon cargo movement.

This shift offers scope for private participation in barge operations, terminal infrastructure, and river-port linkages, vital for bulk cargo and agricultural supply chains.

Investment Horizon: A Logistics-Driven Economy

Andhra Pradesh’s transport and logistics infrastructure is not just about movement—it is about mobilizing growth capital. By 2028-29, the state projects a GSDP of ₹29.29 lakh crore, with cumulative investments of ₹40 lakh crore across services, industries, and agriculture.

Services sector: ₹21 lakh crore (53%)

Industries: ₹12.5 lakh crore (31%)

Agriculture & allied: ₹6.5 lakh crore (16%)

The Swarna Andhra Vision 2047 sets an aspirational target of growing at 15%+ annually to transform Andhra Pradesh into a global logistics hub, driving exports, employment, and sustainable development.
