G Sai Prasad

The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the tenure of Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad by six months following approval from the Central government, ensuring continuity in the state’s top administrative leadership.

According to the order, the extension will be effective from June 1, 2026, to November 30, 2026.

G Sai Prasad to Continue as State’s Top Bureaucrat

G Sai Prasad, a 1991-batch IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, currently serves as the Chief Secretary of the state and holds one of the most important administrative positions in the government.

The extension comes within months of his appointment as Chief Secretary and is being seen as a move aimed at maintaining administrative stability and continuity in governance.

Prasad formally assumed charge as Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary on March 1, 2026, succeeding K Vijayanand, a retired 1992-batch IAS officer.

Appointment Process Began Earlier

Although Prasad took over office in March this year, the state government had issued orders appointing him as Chief Secretary on November 29, 2025.

Since taking charge, he has been involved in overseeing key administrative functions and coordinating governance priorities across departments.

Focus on Continuity and Governance

Extensions for Chief Secretaries are often granted to ensure continuity in policy implementation and maintain stability in administrative functioning, especially during crucial phases of governance and development planning.

As the state continues to focus on infrastructure development, investments and administrative reforms, the continuation of G Sai Prasad’s tenure is expected to provide consistency at the highest level of the bureaucracy.

With the latest extension, he will continue leading Andhra Pradesh’s administrative machinery through the next six months, overseeing policy execution and key governance initiatives across the state.
