Priyank Bharti

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Priyank Bharti, a 2001-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Along with this role, Bharti has also been given the additional charge of Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), one of the government’s key technology and digital governance institutions.

The appointment places Priyank Bharti in two important leadership positions at a time when India is rapidly expanding its digital governance and technology infrastructure ecosystem.

As Additional Secretary in Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Bharti will be involved in policy formulation and implementation related to digital infrastructure, technology innovation and e-governance initiatives. The ministry plays a central role in flagship programmes such as Digital India, aimed at improving digital access and technology-driven public service delivery across the country.

In his additional role as Director General of NIC, Bharti will oversee critical government IT infrastructure and digital platforms that support governance, online public services, data management and cybersecurity systems.

NIC has played a major role in developing and managing digital platforms used by central and state governments for citizen services and administrative operations.
