New Delhi, May 12, 2025 — NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a fully owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has announced a key leadership transition with the appointment of Sarit Maheshwari as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and designated Key Managerial Personnel. The appointment became effective on May 10, 2025. The development was formally communicated through a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges.
Maheshwari assumes the position following the repatriation of Rajiv Gupta to NTPC Limited, the parent company. Gupta’s tenure as CEO concluded as he returned to contribute to NTPC in a different capacity.
With a career spanning more than three and a half decades in the power sector, Sarit Maheshwari brings a wealth of experience and leadership acumen to his new role. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, a Master’s degree in Power Generation Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, and an MBA in Marketing Management from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
Before being named CEO of NGEL, Maheshwari led NTPC Renewable Energy Limited as well as NTPC Rajasthan Green Energy Limited—a 74:26 joint venture between NGEL and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL). In these roles, he was instrumental in advancing NTPC’s green energy agenda and driving renewable energy projects across multiple states.
Earlier in his career, Maheshwari served in various leadership capacities within NTPC, including as Head of Project at NTPC Korba, one of the company’s flagship power stations. His technical expertise, strategic foresight, and consistent delivery of results have made him a respected figure in the Indian energy sector.
Maheshwari’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for NTPC Green Energy Limited, as the company intensifies its efforts to contribute to India’s renewable energy capacity and climate commitments. With India targeting 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030, NGEL is expected to play a significant role in supporting this national vision through large-scale solar, wind, and hybrid projects.

Under his stewardship, the company is expected to expand its renewable portfolio, explore innovative technologies, and strengthen partnerships with state and central stakeholders.
With this appointment, NTPC reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable energy solutions while ensuring leadership continuity and excellence across its subsidiaries.
