Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (OREDA) to accelerate rooftop solar adoption in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY). This collaboration aims to promote renewable energy by leveraging Odisha’s highest-in-the-nation solar subsidies.
The MoU was formalised by OREDA CEO Saidutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan and Tata Power CEO & MD Dr. Praveer Sinha in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja. Tata Power’s involvement extends to managing power distribution in Odisha through its four DISCOMs—TPCODL, TPWODL, TPSODL, and TPNODL—operating under a public-private partnership model.
Odisha provides significant solar adoption subsidies, reducing consumer costs by offering ₹55,000 for 1 kWp systems, ₹1.1 lakh for 2 kWp systems, and ₹1.38 lakh for installations above 3 kWp. The program aims to make rooftop solar installations accessible and affordable for residential consumers.

The collaboration will prioritise public awareness campaigns, information dissemination, and specialized initiatives to encourage solar energy adoption. Awareness drives are planned at high-footfall areas such as airports, malls, and railway stations. Additionally, training programs will develop local technical expertise for rooftop solar installation and maintenance.

The initiative will initially target major cities, including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, and Paradip, before scaling to other regions. Public education efforts will be supported by Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials emphasizing the benefits of renewable energy.

Dr. Praveer Sinha remarked, “This collaboration underscores Tata Power’s commitment to Odisha and aligns with the government’s vision of mainstreaming solar power.”
OREDA CEO Pradhan stated, “Odisha’s vast solar energy potential must be harnessed effectively, and this partnership will accelerate renewable energy adoption while empowering consumers.”
