The Ministry of Railways has approved the appointment of Anish Kumar, an Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer, as Joint Secretary in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The appointment marks his transition from the Ministry of External Affairs to one of the Government of India’s key scientific and strategic departments.
The Railway Board issued the appointment order on August 3, 2026, directing the concerned authorities to facilitate his joining in the new assignment.
Railway Board Approves Appointment
Anish Kumar, a 2002-batch IRSE officer, has been selected to serve as Joint Secretary in the Department of Atomic Energy.
He is currently on deputation to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), where he has been serving as Adviser (DPA-III). Following the latest order, he will assume his new responsibilities in the Department of Atomic Energy from the date he takes charge.
The Railway Board has requested the Ministry of External Affairs to relieve him at the earliest so that he can join his new post.
Tenure Until May 2028
According to the official order, Anish Kumar has been appointed in Pay Level 14 of the Pay Matrix.
His combined central deputation tenure will continue until May 23, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment ensures continuity in his central deputation while assigning him a senior leadership role in the Department of Atomic Energy.
Experience Across Key Government Departments
During his career, Anish Kumar has served in the Indian Railways and has also held important assignments under the Central Government.
