Uttarakhand has taken a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation with the launch of the Uttarakhand Clean Mobility Transformation Policy-2024. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday distributed subsidy cheques to the first beneficiaries under the policy and flagged off 11 clean-fuel vehicles, marking the beginning of the state’s green mobility initiative.
The programme, held at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan (Chief Minister’s Camp Office), also saw six vehicle owners receive financial assistance in the form of capital grants and incentives. The Transport Department has completed the subsidy approval process for five more beneficiaries.
Subsidies to Encourage Clean Public Transport
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dhami said the financial support provided under the policy is not merely a subsidy but a step towards building a cleaner and more modern transport system for Uttarakhand.
He said the initiative is designed to encourage the adoption of clean-fuel public transport, reduce pollution caused by ageing diesel vehicles and promote environmentally responsible urban mobility across the state.
Focus on Sustainable Development
Highlighting the growing impact of climate change, the Chief Minister said economic development and environmental conservation must go hand in hand. He described Uttarakhand as a state with immense ecological significance, being home to the origin of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, rich forests and fragile Himalayan ecosystems.
He stressed that protecting the state’s natural heritage requires collective efforts from both the government and citizens.
Clean Mobility Policy to Modernise Transport
The Uttarakhand Clean Mobility Transformation Policy-2024 aims to modernise urban transport by encouraging the use of CNG and other clean-fuel vehicles while reducing dependence on conventional diesel-powered transport.
According to the Chief Minister, the policy is expected to improve urban mobility, lower emissions and create a more sustainable public transport network across the state.
Expanding Electric Mobility and Renewable Energy
Dhami said the state government is also expanding the operation of electric buses in cities including Dehradun, Haridwar and Haldwani. To support the transition, EV charging infrastructure is being developed across Uttarakhand.
He added that ropeway projects and modern transport systems are also being developed to improve connectivity in hilly regions while reducing traffic congestion and vehicular pollution.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s progress in renewable energy, noting that Uttarakhand has already surpassed its initial target of installing 40,000 rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. He said nearly 95% of the state’s overall rooftop solar target has already been achieved.
Beneficiaries Called Partners in Green Transition
Congratulating the first beneficiaries, Dhami described them as the pioneers of Uttarakhand’s clean mobility mission. He expressed confidence that their participation would inspire more people to adopt clean-fuel vehicles and support the state’s transition towards sustainable transportation.

The event was attended by Transport Minister Pradeep Batra, Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, MLA Savita Kapoor, Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, Transport Secretary Ravinath Raman, senior officials of the Transport Department and other dignitaries.
