Bhogapuram International Airport: A Model PPP in Aviation Infrastructure

The Bhogapuram International Airport stands as a landmark example of Andhra Pradesh’s vision to build world-class infrastructure through the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model. Strategically located near Visakhapatnam in Vizianagaram district, this project embodies the state’s focus on balanced regional growth, private sector participation, and sustainable economic development.

Developed by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited (GVIAL) under a concession agreement with the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL), the project is being executed under the DesignBuild–Finance–Operate–Transfer (DBFOT) model. Spread over 2,703 acres, Bhogapuram Airport is envisioned as a nextgeneration aviation hub connecting Andhra Pradesh to domestic and international markets.

Catalyst for Growth

Bhogapuram Airport will serve as a gateway for trade, tourism, and logistics, enabling multimodal connectivity across the Visakhapatnam–Kakinada–Srikakulam industrial corridor. The project is expected to generate thousands of jobs and attract significant private investment in associated sectors like logistics parks, hospitality, and urban development.

As commercial operations at the existing INS Dega Civil Enclave shift to Bhogapuram, the new facility will emerge as the primary international aviation hub of Andhra Pradesh, symbolising the state’s ability to deliver complex, high-value projects through PPP efficiency, transparency, and innovation.
