Gurugram to Get First ‘Model Road’ in Sector 47 Under PM Modi’s Vikas Initiative

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has finalised plans to develop the city’s first ‘Model Road’ in Sector 47, marking a significant step towards modern urban infrastructure.

The project is being implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vikas ki Guarantee” initiative, which aims to transform conventional roads into smart, well-planned, and internationally benchmarked urban corridors.

A Shift from Basic Roads to Smart Infrastructure

Unlike traditional road development that focuses mainly on resurfacing, this project adopts a holistic, multimodal approach. The idea is to redesign the road as a complete urban space that caters to all types of users—pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The Model Road is expected to include:

  • Dedicated pedestrian-friendly footpaths
  • Improved drainage systems to prevent waterlogging
  • Better traffic management features
  • Organized parking spaces
  • Modern street lighting and signage
  • Green landscaping for a cleaner environment

Improving Daily Urban Experience

Officials believe the project will significantly improve the daily commuting experience for residents of Sector 47 and nearby areas. By addressing long-standing issues such as traffic congestion, poor drainage, and unsafe pedestrian zones, the Model Road aims to set a new standard for city infrastructure.

Pilot Project with Expansion Plans

This will serve as a pilot project, and based on its success, similar model roads may be developed in other parts of Gurugram. The initiative reflects a broader push towards planned urbanisation and sustainable city development.

Towards a Smarter Gurugram

With this project, Gurugram is moving towards becoming a more organised, accessible, and future-ready city. The focus is not just on building roads, but on creating infrastructure that supports quality of life, safety, and sustainability.
