Niraj Verma

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has assigned an additional charge of Secretary in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to Niraj Verma, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Assam–Meghalaya cadre, officials said.

Verma is currently holding senior administrative responsibilities at the Centre and will now also oversee the functioning of the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, which plays a crucial role in coordinating government business in both Houses of Parliament.

The ministry is responsible for scheduling legislative business, facilitating coordination between ministries and ensuring smooth conduct of parliamentary proceedings. With the additional charge, Verma will be tasked with managing legislative coordination and liaison with Parliament during sessions.

Officials said the assignment reflects the government’s confidence in Verma’s administrative experience and ability to handle sensitive coordination roles at the national level.

An official familiar with the decision said, “The additional responsibility ensures continuity in the functioning of the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry and supports efficient management of legislative business.”

Verma will assume the additional charge with immediate effect and will continue to perform his existing duties alongside the new responsibility.
