Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced the establishment of a Semiconductor Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar, with a funding allocation of ₹400 crore. The initiative is aimed at strengthening research and development, capacity building in governance technology, and cybersecurity, in alignment with the National Semiconductor Mission.

The proposed Centre of Excellence will focus on advancing semiconductor research, talent development, and applied innovation, with a specific emphasis on areas relevant to e-governance systems and secure digital infrastructure. The facility is expected to serve as a hub for collaboration between academia, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.

According to official sources, the centre will support skill development programmes, advanced research labs, and technology-driven governance solutions, contributing to Odisha’s efforts to build a future-ready digital ecosystem. Cybersecurity research and secure chip design are expected to be among the key focus areas, given their growing importance in public digital systems.

The announcement reflects the state government’s intent to align with national priorities under the India Semiconductor Mission, while also positioning Odisha as an emerging destination for deep-tech research and innovation.
