IAS officer G Surya Sai Praveenchand, a 2019-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, has officially assumed charge as the Joint Managing Director (JMD) of Andhra Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (AP Transco). The young and dynamic bureaucrat, known for his strong administrative and technical background, expressed his commitment to enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and national standing of the state’s power transmission network.
Speaking to the media after taking charge, Praveenchand underscored AP Transco’s pivotal role in ensuring 24×7 quality power supply across Andhra Pradesh, in line with the state government’s vision. He stated that the organisation would continue to implement reforms and modern practices to achieve system reliability and operational excellence.
“With collective effort, AP Transco will not only retain its leadership but strive to become the No. 1 power transmission utility in India,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar for entrusting him with this responsibility, Praveenchand pledged to work with full dedication toward achieving the government’s energy sector goals.
He emphasized teamwork and collaboration as the foundation of AP Transco’s progress, urging engineers, officers, and staff to work in unison for higher operational standards.
An alumnus of IIT Patna, Praveenchand holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and secured All India Rank 64 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2018, joining the IAS at the age of 27. Over his career, he has held several key positions, including Assistant Collector (Training), Ananthapuramu; Under Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development; Sub Collector, Vijayawada; Municipal Commissioner, Kadapa; and Additional Commissioner, APCRDA.
Senior officials including Directors AKV Bhaskar, J.V. Rao, N.V. Ramana Murthy, and Additional Secretary Peddi Roja congratulated him on assuming the new role, marking a warm welcome from the state’s power sector leadership.
