The Uttar Pradesh Government, in a recent order, has promoted senior IAS officer Alok Kumar II to the rank of Additional Chief Secretary. Formerly Principal Secretary, he will now oversee the Departments of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) & Export Promotion, Infrastructure & Industrial Development, and NRI Affairs, while continuing as Chairman of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
A 1993-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Kumar brings over three decades of experience in public administration, governance, and policy. His leadership roles have spanned across NITI Aayog, the Chief Minister’s Office, and key departments like Technical Education, Health, and Revenue. An alumnus of IIT Delhi (B.Tech, Electrical Engineering), he also holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Princeton University, with a specialisation in health policy. He has also served as a faculty member at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), shaping the next generation of civil servants.
Sharing his gratitude on social media, Kumar said, “Today marks a significant milestone in my career as I step into the role of Additional Chief Secretary. This accomplishment is not mine alone; it represents the collective support from my colleagues, mentors, friends, and family who have been with me through every challenge and success.”
Kumar assumes this expanded responsibility at a time when Uttar Pradesh—home to over 96 lakh registered MSME units—is aiming to triple its export volume by 2030. Since the launch of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, the state’s exports have surged from ₹88,967 crore to over ₹2 lakh crore.

To support this momentum, the state hosts the annual International Trade Show at the India Expo Centre, Greater Noida, with the next edition scheduled for September 25–27. The government’s strategy emphasises industrial infrastructure development, regulatory simplification, and deeper integration of women and rural entrepreneurs into the MSME ecosystem.
With his deep domain knowledge, cross-sectoral experience, and policy vision, Alok Kumar II’s leadership is set to drive transformative growth in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial and MSME sectors.
