In a strategic push to position Uttar Pradesh as a national leader in artificial intelligence (AI), the state government is rolling out an expansive AI upskilling initiative aimed at building a future-ready workforce. This initiative—among the flagship projects of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath—will be a collaborative mission involving six key government departments to foster sector-specific AI capabilities across the state.
Officials said that the initiative, designed by the Department of IT and Electronics, will be executed through coordinated efforts by the Departments of Education, Health, Agriculture, Rural Development, Revenue, and Secretariat Administration. Each department will run customised AI training programmes aligned with its operational needs, embedding AI into the core of public service delivery, governance, and administrative functions.
The multi-departmental initiative is expected to generate a large pool of AI-skilled professionals and create a standardised framework for AI adoption across various sectors. A key highlight of the plan is the establishment of state and district-level committees to ensure real-time monitoring and timely execution. These committees are being constituted and will be responsible for tracking monthly progress, reviewing departmental performance, and ranking districts to promote accountability and effective implementation.
As per the action plan drafted by the Department of IT and Electronics, targeted AI training modules will be tailored for each participating department. The Education Department will launch AI-based courses across schools, colleges, and universities, enhancing the skills of faculty, staff, and students. The Health Department will upskill doctors, medical staff, and allied professionals in AI-powered healthcare solutions.

In agriculture, training will focus on staff, NGOs, progressive farmers, and rural women in agri-tech and AI-driven rural MSME practices. The Rural Development Department will engage rural women, self-help groups, and NGOs in AI training programmes. The Revenue and Secretariat Administration departments will focus primarily on internal staff training to enhance governance and service delivery.

The programme sets an ambitious target: to train 1.5 lakh individuals each month in AI technologies. Over the next 4 to 6 months, the initiative aims to equip at least 1.5 lakh individuals with essential AI skills across multiple domains. To ensure streamlined execution and inter-departmental coordination, the Centre for e-Governance (CeG) under the Department of IT and Electronics will serve as the nodal agency, responsible for submitting monthly performance reports at both state and district levels.

A state-level steering committee led by the Chief Secretary will oversee the programme, while district-level implementation will be monitored by committees headed by the District Magistrate and Chief Development Officer. These institutional mechanisms are designed to ensure effective implementation, real-time tracking, and transparent evaluation of the initiative across Uttar Pradesh.
