Bhuj, Gujarat | 26 May 2025 — Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of major development initiatives valued at over ₹53,400 crore during his visit to Bhuj, Gujarat today. These projects span a range of sectors, including energy, infrastructure, ports, water resources, and tourism. The Prime Minister addressed a large gathering, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transforming Kutch into a national and global hub for trade, tourism, and green energy.
Paying homage to the land of Kutch and its people, Shri Modi saluted their resilience and recalled their recovery journey post the devastating 2001 earthquake. He emphasised Kutch’s transformation from a barren landscape to a vibrant economic and cultural centre. Today, Kutch is a major centre of trade and tourism. In the coming times, this role is going to become even bigger,” he declared.

A key highlight of the event was the emphasis on India’s green energy mission. The Prime Minister laid the foundation for a green hydrogen plant in Kutch, stressing that the technology is entirely indigenous. He also highlighted the significance of the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, poised to become one of the world’s largest solar energy projects, further anchoring Kutch’s role in the nation’s clean energy transition.

The event also marked the inauguration of critical infrastructure at Kandla Port, a vital node in India’s maritime trade, which now handles nearly one-third of the country’s cargo traffic. Enhancements to port connectivity and storage, alongside initiatives in shipbuilding and coastal trade, are set to bolster the blue economy.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi linked India’s coastal development to its civilizational legacy, referencing ancient ports like Lothal and Dholavira. “India is building a new ecosystem along the coastal regions—from seafood and trade to tourism,” he noted.

Turning to the subject of national security, the Prime Minister reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. He highlighted Operation Sindoor as a symbol of India’s decisive response to cross-border terrorism, underscoring the precision and professionalism of India’s armed forces in striking terror bases across the border. “India’s fight is against cross-border terrorism and those who sponsor it,” he said.
Addressing the youth and citizens of Pakistan, he urged introspection and action, warning against the dangers of state-sponsored terrorism and calling on the Pakistani people to reclaim their future from extremist influences.
Shri Modi also lauded the contribution of Kutch’s artisans, farmers, and industries, noting the global reach of local products such as Ajrakh prints, mangoes, cumin, and dragon fruit. He praised Bhujodi village as a beacon of handloom heritage and highlighted the benefits of the GI tag for traditional crafts.
On the tourism front, the Prime Minister noted the growing international recognition of Kutch’s attractions such as the Rann Utsav, Dhordo village, and Smriti Van. He proposed organising a beach festival in Mandvi to further harness the region’s tourism potential.
