Jaipur metro

In a landmark move to enhance urban mobility, Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Jaipur Metro Phase-2. The report has been forwarded to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, for further approval under the Metro Rail Policy, 2017. Construction work on the project will commence once central approval is granted.

This ambitious urban transit initiative was prominently featured in the State Budget for 2025–26, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity in the capital city. Once completed, Jaipur Metro Phase-2 is expected to transform public transportation in Jaipur, significantly reducing congestion and boosting economic activity.

The project will be executed by the newly established Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation (RMRC), a 50:50 joint venture between the Government of Rajasthan and the Government of India. The estimated cost of the project is ₹12,260 crore, with financial assistance secured from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Spanning approximately 42.80 kilometres from Todi Mod to Prahladpura, the proposed corridor will comprise 36 metro stations, of which 34 will be elevated and 2 underground. The route has been strategically planned to connect key residential, commercial, educational, and industrial hubs, including the VKI and Sitapura Industrial Areas.

A notable feature of Phase 2 is the inclusion of an underground station beneath the proposed new terminal of Jaipur Airport, ensuring seamless airport connectivity. Other major locations to be directly connected include Tonk Road, Vidhyadhar Nagar, proposed interstate bus terminals, Sawai Man Singh Hospital, SMS Stadium, and the Collectorate.

To ensure integration with the existing metro infrastructure, a foot overbridge will link the Phase-1 Railway Station Metro with the proposed Khasa Kothi Metro Station. Additionally, a spur line between the Government Hostel and the Chandpole Metro Station is planned to enable smooth transitions between both phases.

With this forward-looking initiative, the Rajasthan government is poised to set a new benchmark in sustainable and efficient urban transportation, further enhancing Jaipur’s position as a modern and well-connected metropolis.
