In a focused counter-terrorism effort, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ shortly after midnight, targeting terrorist infrastructure across nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The operation was carried out following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, the strikes were measured, precise, and non-escalatory in nature, with no Pakistani military facilities targeted. The ministry emphasised that India has shown considerable restraint in both the selection of targets and the execution of the operation.

The identified targets included camps linked to several banned terror outfits, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. These camps were reportedly used for planning and launching attacks in India over recent years.

Among the sites targeted were the Sawai Nala camp in Muzaffarabad, Syedna Bilal Camp, Gulpur camp in Kotli, Barnala camp in Bhimber, Abbas camp in Kotli, and others across Sialkot, Muridke, and Bahawalpur. These facilities were reportedly involved in training and logistical support for cross-border terrorist activities.

The Ministry of Defence noted that a detailed briefing on the operation will be held later in the day.

On the international front, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held closed-door consultations to discuss the situation, with members reportedly calling for de-escalation and dialogue between India and Pakistan. No formal statement was issued by the UNSC after the meeting.
As part of enhanced national preparedness, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also directed states to conduct mock drills to ensure readiness in the wake of the evolving security environment.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to hold accountable those responsible for the Pahalgam attack and underlined that the precision strikes were aimed solely at dismantling terrorist infrastructure threatening India’s security.
