Om Prakash Sinha Recommended as Next Director (Exploration) of ONGC

Om Prakash Sinha is poised to take over as the next Director (Exploration) of Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel has recommended his name for the key leadership role following its selection meeting held on April 17.


Currently serving as Executive Director and Head of the Institute of Reservoir Studies in Ahmedabad, Sinha emerged as the top choice among 12 candidates interviewed by the PESB panel. The shortlisted candidates included seven from ONGC, two from Oil India Limited, and one each from Pawan Hans Limited, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, and ONGC Videsh Limited.

In his new role, Sinha will join the Board of Directors of ONGC and will be entrusted with a range of critical responsibilities. These include formulating and executing exploration strategies, managing oil and gas reservoirs, maintaining robust reserve replacement ratios, designing production infrastructure for new hydrocarbon discoveries, and exploring technologies for Carbon Capture and Storage.

His selection signals a strategic push towards strengthening ONGC’s upstream capabilities and sustaining its leadership in India’s energy sector.
