Ajay Bhadoo Appointed CEO of GeM, Amitava Mukherjee Named CMD of NMDC

The government has appointed Ajay Bhadoo, Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Government e-Marketplace (GeM). He will take on this role in addition to his current responsibilities, as per an official statement released on Wednesday.


Launched on August 9, 2016, the GeM portal serves as the central platform for government ministries and departments to procure goods and services online. A 1999-batch IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre, Bhadoo has extensive experience in policy formulation and implementation, particularly in urban infrastructure development. He was appointed Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce in August 2024.

In another key appointment, Amitava Mukherjee has been named Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NMDC Limited following the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on March 5, 2025. The Ministry of Steel issued the official order on Thursday, confirming that Mukherjee will serve as CMD until his superannuation on February 29, 2028.

Mukherjee, previously Director (Finance) at NMDC, had been handling the additional charge of CMD since the retirement of Sumit Deb on January 31, 2023. Since then, NMDC had been operating under an ad-hoc arrangement from February 1, 2023 until this official appointment.
