Rekha Gupta Named Delhi CM, Swearing-In Today; Full Cabinet Announced

Delhi’s chief minister-designate Rekha Gupta, the announcement of which was made yesterday, will take the oath of office today at Ramlila Maidan around noon, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and senior BJP leaders in attendance. BJP has also confirmed the inclusion of Parvesh Verma and Kapil Mishra in the Delhi Cabinet. Gupta is the only female BJP leader currently holding the post of chief minister.


The Ministry of Home Affairs has officially announced the six cabinet ministers of Delhi, ending speculation over key appointments. The newly appointed ministers are:

Who is Rekha Gupta?

A first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta is set to become the fourth female CM of Delhi and the only woman chief minister in a BJP-ruled state or Union Territory. Gupta joined the BJP in 2002 after a decade-long association with ABVP. She has served as the general secretary of Delhi BJP’s Mahila Morcha and as the national vice-chairperson of BJP Mahila Morcha. A seasoned councillor, she contested the Delhi assembly elections against AAP’s Bandana Kumari and secured victory by 29,595 votes.
