Sembcorp Industries has signed two significant non-binding Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Odisha to explore the establishment of a green hydrogen production facility and an industrial park in the state. The agreements were inked by Sembcorp’s subsidiaries, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited (SGHIPL) and Sembcorp Development Limited, in collaboration with the Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha and the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.
Under the first MoU, SGHIPL will evaluate the feasibility of developing a green hydrogen facility in Odisha, with a proposed annual production capacity of 720,000 metric tonnes. The facility is expected to generate over 2,000 jobs during its operational phase. The second MoU focuses on the potential creation of an industrial park, with Sembcorp Development Limited collaborating with the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation to drive industrial growth in the state.
In December 2024, the Odisha government approved seven renewable energy projects with a combined investment of ₹13.86 billion. These projects, collectively delivering a capacity of 192.41 MW, are set to strengthen Odisha’s sustainable energy ecosystem and were sanctioned by the energy department’s single-window committee.
