NEW DELHI: In preparation for the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, Indian Railways will run 7,000 special trains, catering to an additional two lakh passengers daily. This significant increase was announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a press briefing on Thursday.

The surge in services comes in response to last year’s high demand when 4,500 special trains were operated during the festive season. With passenger footfall expected to rise this year, the Railway Ministry has opted to expand its services further to accommodate the rush, officials confirmed.

The Northern Railway (NR) is expected to play a major role, running around 3,050 trips of special trains as large numbers of passengers travel to the eastern regions of the country during this period. According to a recent NR statement, the enhanced services are designed to ensure people can reach their destinations during the busy festive season without disruptions.
