In a strategic move to combat escalating cyber threats, the Uttar Pradesh government has appointed Binod Kumar Singh IPS as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Cybercrime. This appointment comes as the state intensifies its efforts to bolster cyber defenses.

Binod Kumar Singh, a distinguished officer from the 1994 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), assumes his new role with extensive experience. Previously, Singh served as the ADG of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, where he played a key role in several crucial security operations.

Throughout his illustrious career, Singh has held numerous significant positions, including ADG Security of Uttar Pradesh, where he was responsible for VVIP protection. His tenure as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the National Security Guard (NSG) saw him involved in critical counter-terrorism and elite security operations. Additionally, he has been the district police chief in key districts such as Allahabad, Bareilly, Mirzapur, and Faizabad.

Singh’s exemplary service has earned him several prestigious awards, including the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service (2010), DG NSG’s Commendation Disc (2012), DG UP’s Commendation Disc Gold (2019), Kumbh Sewa Medal (2020), and the Police Medal for Gallantry.

An alumnus of Hansraj College and the Faculty of Law at the University of Delhi, Singh also holds an M.Phil. in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras, underscoring his robust academic credentials.

Known for his dynamic leadership, Singh is highly respected within the police force. His appointment as ADG Cybercrime reflects Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s confidence in his capability to tackle the increasing cybercrime challenges in the state.

In a recent initiative to fortify the state’s cyber defenses, CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurated 57 new cyber police stations across Uttar Pradesh. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance the state’s ability to respond effectively to cyber incidents, ensuring comprehensive coverage and faster response times across all 75 districts.
