Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020

The Government of India, on Monday, revised the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 to encourage ‘Make in India’ & ‘AatmaNirbharta’ in military procurement, along with improving ease of doing business.

The amendment is based on the approvals accorded by Defence Acquisition Council (DAC).

Regardless of the nature of the purchase, all modernisation requirements of the Defence Services and Indian Coast Guard will be sourced locally in the future. Imports of defence equipment and capital acquisitions from foreign industries should be the exception rather than the rule, and should only be done with the approval of the DAC/Raksha Mantri.

The Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) framework was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2018 to create an ecosystem that supports innovation and encourages technological development in the Defence sector by engaging R&D institutes, universities, enterprises, startups, and individual innovators.
