CIDCO Investment & Infrastructure Summit

City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO), Government of Maharashtra, in association with Elets Technomedia Pvt Ltd organised CIDCO Investment and Infrastructure Summit, (Virtual) on October 08, 2021. The summit saw the participation of thousands of delegates from across the country and also from foreign lands including the USA, the UK and other countries through social media and Elets’ 3D platform Avtaar.

The summit was organised under the patronage of Shri Uddhav Thackeray, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Ajit Pawar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Balasaheb Thorat, Hon’ble Revenue Minister; Shri Eknath Shinde, Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development & PWD; Shri Aditya Thackeray, Hon’ble Minister for Environment and Tourism; and Smt. Aditi Tatkare, Hon’ble Guardian Minister Raigad.

Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, CIDCO was the Programme Chair while Shri Ashwin Mudgal, JMD, CIDCO Ltd and Dr Kailas Shinde, JMD, CIDCO Ltd were the Programme Co-chair. Dr Kailas Shinde, under the leadership of Dr Mukherjee, guided and facilitated the proceedings during the entire programme.

Hon’ble CM Uddhav Thackeray ji, in presence of other dignitaries inaugurated CIDCO’s COVID Centers in Kanjurmarg and Kalamboli through Elets’ virtual 3D platform Avtaar where the entire event was hosted. While speaking at the ceremony, Hon’ble CM appreciated the remarkable work done under the top leadership team at CIDCO. Hon’ble Minister Shri Thorat, Shri Shinde, Shri Aditya Thackrey, Smt Tatkare also spoke at the forum shared their opinions on various government initiatives being undertaken at ground level.

Earlier, Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, welcomed all the dignitaries and apprised them of the various activities CIDCO is executing at the moment. The Vote of Thanks was given by Dr Kailas Shinde, JMD, CIDCO Ltd..

The summit comprised of an Inaugural session and five-panel discussions and witnessed insightful deliberations from esteemed personalities from the Government and private sectors. More than 1500 delegates had registered for the event and it was attended by more than 1100 people live. Thousands other watched the live programme on various social media Platforms like Facebook and You tube. The event also received a very good response on social media. The inauguration programme on the CMO live link received more than 30,000 views. The event was also attended by political leaders from Navi Mumbai and Maharashtra. Most of the participation came from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and other parts of Western India.

The Opening Session witnessed deliberations from Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, CIDCO Limited; SVR Srinivas, Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA); Bhushan Gagrani, Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Government of Maharashtra; Dr Kailas Shinde, Joint Managing Director, CIDCO Limited. The welcome address was delivered by Ravi Gupta, CEO, Editor in Chief, Elets Technomedia Pvt. Ltd. Dr Mukherjee also made a detailed presentation on CIDCO’s latest infrastructure and housing initiatives in Navi Mumbai.

Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, CIDCO Ltd. Maharashtra, said, “The Government of Maharashtra gave us the responsibility of developing an alternate city to decongest Mumbai. CIDCO developed Navi Mumbai city and today it poses a counter magnet to Mumbai to divert rural to urban migration.” He spoke on various landmark projects by CIDCO. “CIDCO is coming up with an International Airport in Navi Mumbai that will be operational by 31st December 2024. The airport will be the largest in the country,” Dr Mukherjee added while mentioning CIDCO’s work in making Navi Mumbai an ideal investment destination.

Appreciating CIDCO’s projects, especially the Navi Mumbai International Airport, Shri Bhushan Gagrani, Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Government of Maharashtra, said, “CIDCO is working on the International Airport project that will transform the entire profile of Mumbai due to developments in and around the airport.” Also, CIDCO is working on the NAINA project, an urban development that will pose to be the third Mumbai… “CIDCO needs to work to mobilise more investments,” he added.

Shri SVR Srinivas, Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said that investments in infrastructure lay a multiplier effect on the GDP. While concluding his brief address, the Commissioner said that “I request that the deliberations at the summit fetch out suggestions on how more investments can be mobilized for the development projects in Navi Mumbai.”

Panel Discussion on “Navi Mumbai: The Present and the Future” saw enriching viewpoints and perspectives on the transformation journey of Navi Mumbai. The speakers in this session included Shri Ashwin Mudgal, Joint Managing Director, CIDCO Ltd; Dr Mahendra Kalyankar, District Collector and Magistrate, Raigad; Dr Kailas Shinde, Joint Managing Director, CIDCO Ltd; V Venugopal, Chief Planner, CIDCO Ltd.

Addressing the summit on investment opportunities in Navi Mumbai during the first Panel Discussion themed – ‘Navi Mumbai: The Present and the Future’, Shri Ashwin Mudgal, Joint Managing Director, CIDCO Ltd. said, “In a planned city like Navi Mumbai, the possibility of innovators exploring the city for new ideas is more when compared to other cities… Also, CIDCO is a major stakeholder in housing in Navi Mumbai.”

While Dr Mahendra Kalyankar, District Magistrate and Collector, Raigad, said, “We have over 100 km of coastline that plays a key role in enhancing the connectivity and mobility in the district and with nearby towns and cities.” Sooner or later, the authorities are planning to come up with a Food Park and a Drug Park. There will be many MSMEs getting business opportunities after the project is completed, he added.

Dr Kailas Shinde, Joint Managing Director, CIDCO Ltd. said, “We had been following flexible planning. Almost 6-7 per cent of the land has been reserved for social infrastructure. Now we’re planning to establish Centre of Excellence for Healthcare so institutions will be set up accordingly.” Adding to the CIDCO’s developments in Navi Mumbai he said, “We’re also coming up with a Sports City. We have developed a 9-hole Golf Course. We’re further working on developing various sports infrastructure.”

V Venugopal, Chief Planner, CIDCO Ltd., deliberated that CIDCO is working on Balganga dam and Kondhane dam projects so that the Navi Mumbai and the upcoming NAINA city get the water tapped and there will be no further issues in the water supply.”

Navi Mumbai, a city that has been meticulously planned and developed since 1970s, is set out to experience a massive infrastructural boost. With its close proximity to Pune and all nodal points in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai will reap the rich rewards for its attractive location, as the major infrastructural initiatives planned by the Government

“The unique fact of CIDCO is that it has a multi modal connectivity. Connectivity in terms of air, water and road is the main centre. We have health infrastructure which are run by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. CIDCO has done a fantasy job in marking the health, education and sports ecosystem, and making a holistic plan,” said Niranjan Hiranandani, Provost, HSNC University, Mumbai.

Panel Discussion on “What makes Navi Mumbai an Ideal Investment Destination for Developers?” was chaired by Shri Faiyyaz Khan, General Manager, Housing & Marketing, CIDCO Ltd and it was attended by Deepak Goradia, President, CREDAI-MCHI & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Dosti Realty Limited, Madhu Patil, President, Raigad Unit, CREDAI – MCHI, Vijay Lakhani, President, Navi Mumbai Unit, CREDAI – MCHI, Rajiv Parikh, Immediate Past President, CREDAI – Maharashtra, Piyush Dosi, Chairman & Managing Director, Adinath Buildwell Pvt Ltd (Rajasthan) and Prakash Baviskar, Managing Director, Baviskar Group.

This panel discussion deliberated on the strong ecosystem developed by CIDCO for the overall growth of Navi Mumbai and the investment potential for Developers in Navi Mumbai in view of the existing and proposed infrastructure and transportation projects being undertaken by CIDCO. The Developers also gave some valuable suggestions.

The summit also hosted a Panel discussion on Investment Opportunities in Navi Mumbai which was attended by, Chintan Patel, Partner, KMPG, Gulam Zia, Executive Director, Knight Frank India, Aarti Harbhajanka, Founder and Managing Director at Primus Partners India, Dr. NARESH BHARDE, Chairman, Excellence Group and CMD, Excellence Shelters Pvt Ltd. This Session was Chaired by Dr Kailas Shinde who had detailed review of all the suggestion made the speakers.

In the Panel Discussion on Healthcare, Education and Sports Ecosystem in Navi Mumbai, Dr Shinde opined that Healthcare and Education are two important sectors CIDCO Ltd has paid great attention to. A number of speakers from Healthcare and Education Sector also participated in the panel discussion namely Dr Niranjan Hiranandani, Provost, HSNC University, Mumbai who attended the event as the special guest. Dr Arbinder Singal, Co-founder & Director, MITR Hospital, Simi Sharma, Director and Trustee, Avalon Heights International School, Navi Mumbai, Brijesh Karia, COO, Singhania Education Services Ltd and Dr Nicholas Correa, Executive Director, New Horizon Public School, Navi Mumbai. On behalf of CIDCO Ltd, KVRK Ravi Kumar, Additional Chief Planner, Building Permissions and Development Plan, CIDCO Ltd and Aparna Vedula, Additional Chief Planner (Airport and Rehabilitation), CIDCO Ltd attended the session.

For the Panel Discussion on Transportation Connectivity in Navi Mumbai” The present and the future, the speakers including Geeta Pillai · Chief General Manager (Transport & Airport), CIDCO Ltd, Ashutosh Uikey, Additional Chief Planner, Special Projects, CIDCO Ltd, Charudatta Deshmukh, Director – Urban Planning, MIAL, Anshumali Srivastava, CGM and Regional Officer, Mumbai, NHAI, PRK Murthy · Director Metro Projects at Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Sunil Kumar Madhbhavi, Technical Advisor, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, B M Setty, Associate Director, LEA Associates South Asia Pvt Ltd spoke at length about the Transport and Connectivity benefits that Navi Mumbai offers to its citizens.

Overall, it was concluded that Investment in the realty landscape of Navi Mumbai is expected to be very profitable since it is one of the most popular regions amongst home buyers owing to affordability, seamless connectivity and presence of job opportunities. Navi Mumbai, a well-planned addition to Mumbai, has seen a huge growth in real estate due to the rapid commercialization and development of infrastructure.
