Centre appoints 31 Joint Secretaries amidst major bureaucratic reshuffle


The Government of India underwent a major bureaucratic reshuffle on Monday. A total of 31 IAS officers have been appointed as joint secretaries in central government departments.

Ashok Kumar Parmar, a Jammu & Kashmir cadre officer of 1992-Batch has been appointed as the advisor, Inter-State Council Secretariat under the Home Ministry.

Tanmay Kumar, a 1993-Batch officer of Rajasthan cadre has been named Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Power.


Nagraju Maddirala (1993-Batch Tripura cadre) has been appointed as the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Coal.

Hari Ranjan Rao, Madhya Pradesh cadre officer of 1994-Batch will be the Joint Secretary to the Department of Telecommunications for a tenure of five years.


Vineet Mathur (1994-Batch) Indian Postal Services officer has been appointed as the Joint Secretary of Department of Consumer Affairs.

Senior IAS officers Rajeev Singh Thakur (1995-Batch) and Shantanu (1997-Batch) have been appointed as Joint Secretaries of the Department of Military Affairs.

Thakur, a Rajasthan cadre officer, will have tenure till December 3, 2022. Shantanu, an officer of Tripura cadre has been appointed till March 27, 2024. The department of Military Affairs has been created last month and is headed by General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

Bharat Harbanslal Khera, a 1995-Batch officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre has been appointed as the Joint Secretary in Cabinet Secretariat.

Vishal Gagan (1998-Batch), Odisha cadre officer has been made the joint secretary for the Department of Defence for a period of five years.

S Suresh Kumar, a 2000-Batch officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre and Puneet Agarwal (1998-Batch Tripura cadre) have been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce.

Sanjukta Mudgal, Indian Forest Officer (1990-Batch) of Madhya Pradesh cadre has been named the Joint Secretary of Ministry of Culture.

Vimalendra Anand Patwardhan, Indian Audit & Accounts Services (IA&AS) officer of 1996-Batch has been appointed as the Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Other officers have been appointed in different central government departments.
