Political Journalist Ajay Kumar Singh is the new Press Secretary to the President

The Appointments Committee, led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the appointment of Ajay Kumar Singh as the new Press Secretary to the President Ramnath Kovind.

Political journalist Ajay Kumar Singh, 55, on Monday, took charge of the Office of the Press Secretary to the President.

Singh is on a contract basis for a period of one year, the Department of Personnel and Training said.

Singh currently contributing to the Firstpost will be replacing Ashok Malik, who was the first non-civil servant to be appointed for the post of Press Secretary. His term ended in July.

In 1985, Singh began his career with The Times of India in Lucknow and thereafter, has been associated with The Economic Times, The Telegraph, The Pioneer, The Business Standard, ABP News (formerly Star News), and NewsX. Prior to joining The Firstpost as Executive Editor, Singh was the Editor of the
Governance Now magazine.
