Bharat Wi-fi project to provide 10 lakh hotspots by Dec, 2019

Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha has announced that the Indian telecom industry will rollout 10 lakh WiFi hotspots in the country by December,2019.

He was speaking at Indian Mobile Congress today in Aerocity, Gurugram.

The project has been named as Bharat Wi-Fi, which is a country-wide common inter-operable platform of one million Wi-Fi Hotspots, owned and operated by Telecom Service Providers, Internet Service Providers and Virtual Network Operators. Through it, the consumers will be able to access the Wi-fi hotspots.

Along with Sinha, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Puri were also present.

Ministers and dignitaries from Cambodia, European Union, Lao-PDR, Myanmar, Mauritius, Nepal, South Africa also participated in the event.

Indian Mobile Congress was started last year to build a collaboration platform for technologies and services in next generation mobile communications.

More than 5,000 people participated in the event includung policy makers, ambassadors, opinion makers, change agents, bureaucrats and investors.
