towersTelephone connections in India have crossed one-billion mark, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

While launching four broadband products made by state-run technology centre C-DOT, the minister said that the country has got 980 million mobile connections, around 978 to be precise.

“Phone connectivity in India has crossed one billion. We add 5-7 million new connections every month,” he said.


As per latest data released by sector regulator TRAI, total phone connections were 999.71 million at the end of April 30, while the wireless or mobile connections stood at 973.35 million.
