‘Govt won’t compromise on net neutrality’

The NDA government will not compromise on net neutrality, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in the Rajya Sabha.

“The government stands for ensuring non-discriminatory access to the internet for all citizens. Blocking and deliberately slowing down or speeding up of lawful content on the internet should not be allowed,,” Prasad said.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has received more than 1 million petitions from the supporters of net neutrality to ‘keep internet free’.

TRAI has sought public comments till April 24 before making its recommendations on net neutrality and Internet-based calling and messaging applications.
