The government unveiled the roadmap for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications to realise policy goals of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’.
The roadmap will serve as a single reference document for all the M2M stake holders in India.
“The adoption of M2M based applications have great potential to boost the socio-economic development of the country,” Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said. “At a time when the country is focusing on digital empowerment, it has to be ensured that it plays a lead role in the implementation of M2M technologies. All concerned agencies should join hands to ensure that all needed infrastructure is put in place at the earliest,” he added.
M2M communications or ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) is a network of devices that communicate among themselves using internet or wireless connectivity without human intervention.
The Department of Telecom will work on all the aspects regarding M2M communications.
