Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley has launched the DD News mobile app.
Speaking about the Prasar Bharati app at the launch ceremony, Jaitley said its capability would depend on objectivity and constant updating. “Whichever event or news it is, it should be presented with details. The audience always look for newness, complete information and facts.”
He said it is an agenda of Prasar Bharti, Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR) to have the largest width of coverage and provide facts. “There is still wide scope to cater to those people who are starving for ‘facts’ and coverage of events outside the national capital,” the minister said.
Jaitley further said, “We are flooded with channels, newspapers etc. which showcase events as news. On the other hand, there is huge number of activities happening all over. These can be presented before the audience with facts.”
Talking further on objectivity in news, the minister said it should never be considered a casualty. He added while “competitive” or “anchor-driven news” has its own value, the fact cannot be denied that there is a huge need and “almost a starvation” for just knowing the facts. People want to go for facts, instead of just getting the information.
