Cancer Institute at GMCH Nagpur gets a push

gmc-nagpurA long-standing need for a State Cancer Institute at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Nagpur regained impetus in the ongoing budget session in Maharashtra.

The project pegged at cost of Rs 120 crore is waiting for sanctions and funds support from the Centre to begin work on the facility at the earliest. Shri Vinod Tawde, Minister of Medical Education, and Government of Maharashtra gave the assurance to quick start the project in response to a question raised by Sudhakar Kohale, MLA, South Nagpur, Maharashtra. He also promised to speed up the pace of work related to installation of a linear accelerator at the radiotherapy and oncology department at GMCH, Nagpur.

The official proposals are yet to be sent out from the hospital.
