Ram Sewak Sharma,  presently Chief Secretary of Jharkhand will take over the charge of Secretary at the Department Of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India. He will replace J Satyanarayana, who is retiring on 30th April.

Earlier,  he held the coveted position of Director General and Mission Director of the Unique Identification Authority of India between August 2009 and March 2013. While heading the authority, Sharma was instrumental in accelerating the rate of Aadhaar enrollment. He also did the ground work for linking the 12 digit unique ID number with distribution of subsidies and other benefits.

He has also served as the Principal Secretary of the Science and Technology Department of the Jharkhand Government from September 2008 to July 2009. Apart from that, R S Sharma also handled the  additional charge of  the Principal Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department in the state of Jharkhand.  Prior to these, the 1978 batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, also handled important departments like IT, Human Resource Development, Panchayati Raj in the capacity of Principal Secretary in the state government.


R S Sharma has won various awards in the field of e-governance and was also nominated for Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration.
