IRCTC to Launch SMS Based Ticketing Service

IRCTC is all set launch SMS-based ticketing service from July 1. It will soon announce dedicated number for the service.


This new system will allow people to book tickets from their mobile. Print-out of tickets is also not required as the ticketing message is already considered valid for the journey.

People have to register their mobile number with IRCTC with their respective bank account. IRCTC has tied up with 20 national banks to unveil the service.

The bank will provide MMID (Mobile Money Identifier) and OTP (one time password) for the authorisation of payment. The sender will receive transaction ID and payment could be made by sending an0ther SMS by name, age and gender on the SMS box.


The service is available to all mobile subscribers and Rs 3 is being charged per SMS and payment gateway charges are Rs 5 for the ticket amount up to Rs 5,000 and Rs 10 for more than Rs 5,000.
