Andhra Pradesh launches Aadhaar-card linked LPG scheme

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday launched a Aadhaar-card based Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG subsidy scheme.

This will be applicable in five districts including Hyderabad. In the phase II, it is proposed to cover 10 more districts. He said all issues related to Aadhaar cards in the State were brought to the notice of the Planning Commission and were likely to be settled at the earliest.

The programme seeks to ensure that the benefits reach the eligible and eliminate the benami. The Central Government is spending Rs 55,000 crore as subsidy for cooking gas in the country and Rs 5,200 crore in the State.

The oil marketing companies were asked to speed up the synchronisation and ceding of Aadhaar in to the bank accounts in coordination with other departments.

Out of a total population of 8.47 crore (according to 2011 census), 7.70 crore individuals have enrolled and 70 per cent cards generated. Once this process is completed, benefits of all the welfare schemes will be synchronised through Aadhaar.
