New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the continuation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to sanction new projects and conduct capacity building activities till March 31, 2014.

The projects will be sanctioned under the city modernisation scheme’s components – Urban Infrastructure and Governance (UIG) and Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT), an official release said.

It added that new urban infrastructure projects in states and union territories (UTs) would be approved till March 31, 2014. It also said that new capacity building activities in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and states have also been approved.

“The proposal would enable provisions for creating urban infrastructure, particularly in small and medium towns, in all states and UTs. These projects would be subsumed in the next phase of the JNNURM for the 12th Five Year Plan,” it said.
