Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has extended its 'rent a bicycle' scheme to Pragati Maidan, Patel Chowk and Indraprastha stations now. This scheme was replicated at these additional places after the overwhelming response coming from the public at its implementation at the Vishwavidyalaya station. The scheme is aimed mainly at office-goers, tourists and students who use the metro rail.

These three new 'rent a bicycle' facilities will have ten bicycles each, six for men and four for women. The numbers will be increased depending on the response and requirement. Commuters will have to provide a photo identity proof for availing themselves of the facility. All the rules and regulations related to the service will be put on display at all the metro cycle stands. Smart card holders can park their bicycles free of cost at the cycle stands, while other commuters will have to pay INR 2. Bicycles can be hired at the rate of INR 10 for four hours.

The concept would be extended to other stations depending on the potential for the scheme in other areas as well. It is an eco-friendly mode of transport and the attempt is to encourage more people to opt for this clean mode of transport.
