Gujarat Janseva Kendra Gets Stockholm Challenge Award

The Jan Seva Kendra of Gandhinagar Collectorate has received the Stockholm Challenge Award-2008 for innovative use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in governance.

The Jan Seva Kendra of Gandhinagar Collectorate has received the Stockholm Challenge Award-2008 for innovative use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in governance. Director of Municipalities in the state government, Sonal Mishra, who had implemented the project as the then Collector in 2006-07, received the award at a ceremony in Stockholm. The citation said the project enhanced transparency of application processing and the accountability of public officials.

The Jan Seva Kendra has been processing close to 400 applications everyday with an average of 90 per cent on time delivery of the demanded documents. Given by the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, the Gandhinagar centre won in the category of public administration from over 100 entries sent from across the world. The challenge programme targets innovation in the use of ICT for development projects worldwide.
