What is your vision for municipal e-Governance in your Municipality? How important, in your opinion is the e-Governance at the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)?

VISION: To leverage the ICT opportunities for sustained improvement in efficiently and effective delivery of municipal services to citizens of Visakhapatnam.

E-Governance is an essential prerequisite for any urban local body to figure out the shape and nature of governmental response to the needs of information technology.

Information Technology / e-Governance is all about connectivity. Connectivity brings proximity which makes the delivery of service offered by the urban local bodies deserve maximum attention as they are at the cutting edge and immensely affect the daily lives of the citizens.

What are the different services that are being e- Delivered? How is this impacting the service delivery in terms of speedy and improved G2C transaction?

The various services that are being e-Delivered are:

  • Issuance of birth and death certificates

  • Property tax and other utilities

  • Water supply and other utilities

  • Building plan approvals

  • Accounting and personal management system

  • Citizens grievance redressal

  • The impact on citizens is that it makes it easier for them to access municipal services, make hassle free payment of taxes and user charges and get quick readdressal of grievances.

  • The impact on GVMC is that it brings about improvement in efficiency and effectiveness of business processes /functions of ULBs.

  • For decision makers, it provides improved information for planning and decision making.

  • For the employees, it provides improved efficiency and better delivery of urban services.

  • It also enables the policy makers to have an integrated view of performance of the GVMC.

The users also interact with the corporation through the website on Internet. The website is a comprehensive effort to include all the civic areas. They have the facility to file their grievance online that gets directly forwarded to the concerned officer thereby reducing the grievance handling time.
