Portugal government ministers presented 5000 computers to people across Portugal as part of the drive to get the whole country on-line. And a new study shows a 200 % increase in Portuguese internet access in 2006.

Fees paid by mobile phone operators for the third-generation UMTS licences have been put into a fund that will eventually guarantee broadband internet access for more than half a million people in Portugal. The assistance is focused on adults attending job skills courses, as well as school students and teachers. In this way, the Portuguese government is emphasising the strong links between internet access, computer skills and employment prospects. This is part of the country's Plano Tecnol
