United Telecom chooses UTStarcom for SWAN project in India

UTStarcom Inc. , a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, has partnered with United Telecom Limited to install its Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) fiber access solution for the new Statewide Area Network (SWAN) in Goa, India.

UTStarcom Inc. , a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, has partnered with United Telecom Limited to install its Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) fiber access solution for the new Statewide Area Network (SWAN) in Goa, India.

United Telecoms Ltd is the first company to deploy GEPON technology to deliver e-Governance and triple play services to the citizens of Goa. UTStarcom's FTTx solution will be used to provide high-speed fiber connectivity across all state government offices in Goa for running e-Governance applications. The network will be capable of delivering up to one gigabit-per-second bandwidth to each office and is expected to be extended in the near future to cover the sub-districts and villages to enable the Goa state government to provide better services to its citizens. The company intends to offer a slew of services, including e-Governance applications, broadcast-quality IPTV, on-demand entertainment services, tele-medicine, distance learning, and e-Commerce.
