Private sector will play major role in implementing e-Governance projects. IT Ministry of India is planning e-governance projects under the national e-Governance plan (NeGP).

The aim of the NeGP is to transform the manual task of registration and clearance issuing of government services into an electronic medium for interaction between government departments and between the government and the citizen.  The MMPs will include national ID, central excise, income tax, passport, pensions, banking, and insurance, land records, property registration, transport, agriculture, municipalities, gram panchayats, commercial taxes, treasuries, police and employment exchange. The IT Ministry has funded INR 350 million to level authorities to set up state e-Governance mission teams (SeMTs) and project e-Governance mission teams (PeMTs).
